A story surfaced this morning which claimed the Top Gun hero had passed away after falling off a cliff top in New Zealand.
The 'tragedy' at Kauri Cliffs apparently occurred on the set of Tom's new movie.
However the star - hubby of KATIE HOLMES and father of three - is alive and well, insists his baffled agent.
The bogus web report follows an identical hoax two years ago, which falsely claimed TOM HANKS had fallen to his death off the same clif

Rumours had started circulating on the internet that the Hollywood star had died after falling off the Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand while filming.
But his publicist Jeff Raymond said: "This is completely not true. is not in New Zealand nor has he been there recently.
"This is erroneous and unreliable internet garbage."
A similar report two years ago claimed that actor had died after falling from the same cliffs.
That also turned out to be fiction.
It has been reported that the story emanated from a website which allows people to input the name of a celebrity and generate a fake story about them.
Cruise was photographed this week in New York with his wife and their daughter Suri.
Holmes is appearing on Broadway in the play All My Sons, which has just had its official opening to mixed reviews
